FOR RELEASE October 3, 2017
Waterford Green Josh Kelly Re-appointed as Conservation Commission Alternate
Media Contact: Baird Welch-Collins, email@example.com
On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, Waterford Green Party Chairman Joshua Steele Kelly took the oath of office and accepted his reappointment as an alternate to the town’s Conservation Commission. Kelly was originally appointed to the commission in 2016 to fill a vacancy. The new appointment’s term is five years, meaning he will serve in the position through 2022. This is the first reappointment or reelection secured by a member of Waterford’s Green Party since their founding in 2013, and it further demonstrates the dedication of the Green Party and its membership to service and the town.
The Party has secured a total of four appointed positions and one elected post since that time. Kelly was also elected to the Zoning Board of Appeals as an alternate in 2015, marking the Party’s first electoral victory. Baird Welch-Collins, the Party’s co-chair and a candidate for the Representative Town Meeting in District 2 this year, was recently appointed as a full member to the town’s Flood and Erosion Control Board, and has since been elected as that Board’s treasurer. Both Kelly and Welch-Collins are also appointed Justices of the Peace, and Kelly is a candidate for the Representative Town Meeting in District 3 this year.
The Green Party has had a large showing so far in this year’s elections, nearly doubling the size of their slate since the 2015 elections. Other candidates include Kevin Kelly (Board of Finance), Deb Roselli Kelly (Board of Education), Mike Buscetto III (Board of Assessment Appeals), Billy G. Collins (Zoning Board of Appeals), Darcy Van Ness (ZBA Alternate), Andrew Frascarelli (RTM D1), and Carl D’Amato (RTM D4).
Additionally, the Waterford Green Party is the only party in town, to date, to have published a platform outlining their goals and views on town issues. The platform focuses on local economics, environmentalism, durable infrastructure, 21st century education, and government transparency. It can be read online at waterfordgreenparty.org/platform.
